What does a ‘Pending’ Sassa status mean?

Sassa has revealed that if you see “pending” on your application status, it means that your application has not yet been approved.

This is because Sassa is still in the process of scanning your details which they will need to verify before you can be approved as an SRD grant beneficiaries.

If your SRD application is approved, you will receive an SMS from SASSA requesting your bank details. Sassa will use these banking details to pay your money each month, so it is important that you make sure you provide the correct banking information, contact and personal details.

What to do about your ‘Pending’ Sassa status

Sassa recommends that applicants keep an eye on their SRD grant status for any updates. Once the application undergoes the verification process, the agency validates the applicant’s name, surname and ID number with the Department of Home Affairs. 

To ensure that applicants are not recipients of other grants or sources of income, their ID numbers are matched against various databases such as Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), South African Revenue Services (SARS), and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

Thereafter the applicant’s ID number and phone number is scanned through a Fraud Risk Scoring process. If their application is approved then they will receive their payment using the Sassa payment method chosen when applying.
